Bank Robber Sentenced to 110 Months for Robbing Same Credit Union Twice

Akil Saeed Daniels, 41, of San Diego, was sentenced to 110 months in prison for robbing credit unions in Poway and Chula Vista in 2022. The robberies were a repeat offense for Daniels, who had previously robbed the same Chula Vista credit union in 2011.

Daniels was arrested on October 3, 2022, after robbing the Mission Federal Credit Union in Poway. He was indicted for the robberies in November 2022 and convicted by a federal jury in January 2023.

The robberies were brazen, with Daniels using a demand note to threaten the tellers. In one robbery, he wrote, "Hand me all the money, don&aposs make me get violent" or "Hand me all the money, I don&aposs want to get violent." The teller he robbed in 2011 was still working at the credit union when Daniels robbed it again in 2022.

"Employees who have been through a robbery are impacted for the rest of their lives," said U.S. Attorney Randy Grossman. "This defendant made the decision to terrorize the same people not once, but twice. And now, not once, but twice, he will pay for his crime with a lengthy prison term."

Daniels was sentenced to 13 years in prison in 2011 for robbing the same Chula Vista credit union. He was released from prison in June 2022 and robbed the credit union again just three months later.

The case is part of the Violent Crime and Human Trafficking Section's ongoing efforts to reduce violent crime in the community. The section was formed in 2019 to lead collaborations between federal and local law enforcement in the investigation and prosecution of cases involving violent crimes, firearms, and gang cases.
