Grimy Times has learned that Albert Torres Morales, 30, of Richford, Vermont, has been sentenced to 84 months in prison for carrying a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking crime and conspiring to distribute heroin, cocaine base, and cocaine.
According to court records, the Vermont Drug Task Force conducted more than ten controlled purchases of heroin, cocaine base, and cocaine from Morales in and around Richford between January and April 2014. Morales regularly possessed a firearm in connection with his drug dealing activity.
In one instance, on March 24, 2014, law enforcement captured audio and video footage of Morales in possession of a handgun while he conducted a heroin transaction.
The case took a turn when Larry Garrow, Jr. of Richford burglarized Rite-Way Sports in Hardwick of 32 handguns on April 19, 2014. Jaime Hoben then drove with Garrow to Richford, where Garrow traded some 20 of the handguns to Morales for heroin and money.
On April 22, 2014, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Morales’s residence, the location of numerous controlled purchases of narcotics from Morales. Agents recovered a drug ledger and a safe containing $6,000 in cash. Morales was arrested the same day with heroin and over $1,000 in cash.
Morales was sentenced to 84 months imprisonment by Chief Judge Christina Reiss, who also ordered that he serve a three-year period of supervised release following his term of imprisonment. Morales was represented by Michael L. Desautels, Esq. of the Federal Defender’s Office.
In related cases, Jaime Hoben was sentenced to six months imprisonment and three years of supervised release on a charge of possession of stolen firearms. Larry Garrow, Jr. was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment and three years of supervised release after his conviction for possession of stolen firearms.
