Albuquerque Felon Jensen Pleads Guilty to Gun Charge

ALBUQUERQUE – In a chilling turn of events, Nathan Jensen, 34, of Albuquerque, N.M., has been hit with hard time for violating federal firearm laws. Jensen’s crime spree reached its climax when he pled guilty in federal court to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Jensen’s arrest in May 2016 is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by repeat offenders. The complaint against him details his offense while on supervised release following a prior conviction for the same charge. His parole violation was compounded when he failed to report to his probation officer or the halfway house as directed.

Court records show that Jensen’s warrant was issued on May 4, 2016, and he was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service’s Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team (USMS-SWIFT) on May 16, 2016. His parole violation led to his indictment on June 14, 2016, charging him with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Today’s guilty plea by Jensen means he admitted to violating the conditions of his supervised release and having a firearm and ammunition seized during his arrest. The maximum penalty he now faces is ten years in federal prison, although a sentencing hearing has yet to be scheduled.

This investigation was led by the Albuquerque office of ATF and USMS-SWIFT, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacob Wishard at the helm of the prosecution. The case falls under a federal anti-violence initiative targeting “the worst of the worst” offenders for federal prosecution. This collaborative effort aims to remove repeat violent or repeat offenders from New Mexico communities for as long as possible.

New Mexico’s law enforcement community, including the U.S. Attorney’s Office and various local agencies, is working diligently under this initiative to target repeat offenders with a focus on counties with the highest violent crime rates, such as Bernalillo County.
