A Mentmore man was sentenced to 37 months in prison for assaulting and strangling his intimate partner, causing substantial bodily injury, in New Mexico.
According to court records, Alery Al Reid, 27, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, committed the heinous act on December 5, 2024.
Reid punched, strangled, and threatened to kill Jane Doe, resulting in substantial bodily injury. He subsequently pled guilty to assault of an intimate partner by strangling and assault of an intimate partner resulting in substantial bodily injury.
Upon his release from prison, Reid will be subject to three years of supervised release.
The Gallup Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with assistance from the Navajo Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark A. Probasco is prosecuting the case. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, made the announcement today.
There is no parole in the federal system. Reid will serve 37 months in prison, with no chance of parole, for his crimes.
