Stalking Charge Rocks Gretna Community
A 48-year-old Gretna man has been charged with stalking a former girlfriend, sending her over 25 harassing and intimidating texts and emails. Alfred Humbles, 48, of Gretna, Louisiana, was charged Thursday, February 28, 2019, with Stalking, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2261A(2)(B).
According to the indictment, from November 2018 – January 28, 2019, Humbles sent the victim a barrage of threatening messages, including black roses to her place of employment on December 11, 2018. The victim had already sent an email to Humbles on November 29, 2018, indicating that the relationship was over and to stop having contact with her, law enforcement had been notified, and she felt that her life was being threatened.
The indictment quotes several of the threatening messages, including one on January 9, 2019, where Humbles stated, ‘I can’t think of one reason why you should be walking around breathing.’ Another email on January 15, 2019, read, ‘I’m tired of playing…..pick one, either your face gets pistol whipped, house burns…’. The victim received a chilling message on January 25, 2019, stating, ‘when my pistol is in your mouth…’
If convicted, Humbles faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five (5) years, a fine of $250,000, three years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment fee. The U.S. Attorney’s office emphasized that an indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
U.S. Attorney Peter G. Strasser praised the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office in bringing the case to justice. Assistant United States Attorney Jon Maestri is in charge of the prosecution.
