Law enforcement has dropped the hammer on Ryan Gene Hansen, a 31-year-old from Algona, Iowa. Hansen is staring down the barrel of federal charges after being accused of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
The United States District Court in Sioux City filed the complaint against Hansen on March 18, 2013, charging him with orchestrating the distribution of the deadly drug within the Algona area from 2012 through early 2013.
Should Hansen be found guilty, he’s facing a minimum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment, with the possibility of spending his entire life behind bars. The maximum fine hovers at an eye-watering $10,000,000, and he’ll also be hit with a special assessment of $100. Post-imprisonment, Hansen could be on supervised release for anywhere from five to the rest of his life.
Hansen’s first appearance in federal court, where he was denied bond, came just days after the charges were filed. As with all criminal cases, Hansen is innocent until proven guilty.
The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office has been leading the investigation, and Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde is tasked with prosecuting this serious case.
