NEW ORLEANS – The streets of New Orleans have seen their fair share of crime, but a recent guilty plea by a California man has left many wondering how such a large-scale operation went undetected for so long.
Allen Edgerson, age 43, of Moreno Valley, California, pled guilty today to charges relating to methamphetamine trafficking. Edgerson, who faces a term of imprisonment of at least ten years and up to life in prison, sold methamphetamine in large quantities, quoting customers prices for up to 20 pounds of methamphetamine at a time.
According to court documents, Edgerson and his codefendant, Rachel Cesario, sent packages with multiple pounds of methamphetamine at a time to codefendant Sheon Copprue in New Orleans. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana announced the guilty plea, praising the work of the United States Postal Inspection Service, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Louisiana State Police.
Edgerson’s codefendants, Sheon Copprue and Tonya Calvin, have already pled guilty in this case. Judge Sarah S. Vance set Edgerson’s sentencing for November 10, 2021. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas D. Moses is in charge of the prosecution.
The methamphetamine trafficking charges against Edgerson stem from a conspiracy to distribute and to possess with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and 500 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine, in violation of 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1), 841(b)(1)(A), and 846.
Edgerson’s guilty plea brings an end to a months-long investigation into the methamphetamine trafficking ring. The investigation, led by the United States Postal Inspection Service, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Louisiana State Police, resulted in the seizure of multiple pounds of methamphetamine and the arrest of several individuals.
As a result of his guilty plea, Edgerson faces a term of imprisonment of at least ten years and up to life in prison, a fine of up to $10,000,000, at least five years of supervised release, following any term of imprisonment, and a mandatory special assessment of $100.
