A heinous crime has shaken the small town of Allen, South Dakota. An eleven-month-old boy’s skull was fractured, leaving him dead, and two other young children were allegedly abused by Michael Dean Dubray, 30.
Dubray, a resident of Allen, was indicted by a federal grand jury on June 11, 2013, for First Degree Murder and Felony Child Abuse and Neglect. The indictment was handed down, and the penalty upon conviction is mandatory life imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine.
Dubray appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on June 12, 2013, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The charges are merely an accusation, and Dubray is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. A trial date has not been set, but Dubray was released on bond pending trial.
The investigation is being conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Justice Services, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah B. Collins is prosecuting the case.
