Jackson, Miss. – In a shocking turn of events, Amery Ketcher, a 30-year-old tribal member from the Pearl River Community of the Choctaw Indian Reservation, pleaded guilty to the charge of assault resulting in serious bodily injury of another tribal member on the Choctaw Indian Reservation.
According to court documents, Ketcher stabbed the victim with a knife, resulting in serious bodily injury to the victim. This heinous crime has left the community reeling with shock and outrage.
On March 2025, a federal grand jury indicted Ketcher on the assault charge. The case was thoroughly investigated by the Choctaw Police Department of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Kevin J. Payne, Brian K. Burns, and Special Assistant United States Attorney Kalleigh McCoy. U.S. Attorney Baxter Kruger commended the work of the Choctaw Police Department, stating that their dedication to justice is truly commendable.
Ketcher faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. A federal district judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. Ketcher is scheduled to be sentenced on May 20, 2026.
