Nurse Arrested for Diverting Controlled Substances
A 44-year-old nurse from Vermont is facing federal charges for allegedly diverting controlled substances from a New Hampshire hospital.
Amy J. Vickers, of Bradford, Vermont, was arrested on August 8 and charged with obtaining controlled substances by misrepresentation, fraud, forgery, deception or subterfuge, according to U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young.
According to the complaint, Vickers was working at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, New Hampshire, when hospital personnel noticed a discrepancy in the disposal of a dosage of hydromorphone on June 17, 2022. When confronted about the discrepancy, Vickers allegedly admitted to diverting the substance for her personal use, and having done so repeatedly over the course of a few months.
It is not believed that any patients were affected by Vickers’ diversion of medications. The investigation is ongoing, with assistance from the Lebanon Police. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles L. Rombeau.
The charges in the complaint are only allegations, and Vickers is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. Vickers had an initial appearance before a U.S. Magistrate Judge and was released pending further proceedings.
The investigation into this matter is being led by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The exact date of Vickers’ next court appearance is not specified in the complaint.
