A Woodstock man has been sentenced to another year behind bars for failing to report to prison, officials said.

According to court documents, Andre Smith, 43, also known as Dre, was sentenced to 12 months and one day of imprisonment by U.S. District Judge Michael P. Shea in Hartford.

Smith was originally sentenced to 41 months of imprisonment and three years of supervised release for conspiring to distribute cocaine and crack in eastern Connecticut on January 12, 2022.

However, on March 19, 2022, Smith cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet, and he subsequently failed to report to his designated Bureau of Prisons facility as ordered.

Smith turned himself in to the U.S. Marshals Service in Bridgeport on June 14, 2022, and has been detained since that date.

He pleaded guilty on October 11, 2022.

This investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Marshals Service, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Natasha M. Freismuth.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, this case is part of the District of Connecticut’s effort to combat the opioid epidemic.
