A Carnegie resident has been convicted of throwing projectiles at Pittsburgh police officers during a protest in 2020.
Andrew Augustyniak-Duncan, 25, pleaded guilty to one count of obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder on May 30, 2020.
According to court documents, Augustyniak-Duncan knowingly and willfully threw pieces of concrete and a pipe at several Pittsburgh police officers, causing the obstruction, impediment and interference of law enforcement officers engaged in the lawful performance of their official duties.
The incident occurred on May 30, 2020, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Augustyniak-Duncan was taken into custody and is currently detained pending sentencing.
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Augustyniak-Duncan faces a maximum total sentence of not more than five years in prison, a fine of $250,000 or both.
Sentencing has been scheduled for October 13, 2021. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police.
