Angela Marks, 24, of Sweeny, Texas, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy and sex trafficking of children, admitting her role in a sordid ring that exploited three minors as young as 16 for commercial sex. The announcement came today in Galveston federal court, where U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Patrick confirmed the conviction in a case that reveals the brutal mechanics of modern child trafficking.
Marks was one of ten originally charged in a sprawling sex trafficking operation that used sexually-oriented websites—primarily Backpage.com—to advertise minors for paid sex. Between February 23 and 27, 2017, she directed three underage girls to pose in sexually provocative positions, taking explicit photos with her own phone. Those images were then uploaded to online ads designed to lure customers seeking illicit encounters.
Once bookings were made, Marks used a computer application to manage communications with clients and monitor the minors during prostitution dates. She coached the victims on how to conduct themselves during sex acts and dictated pricing. At Houston motels—including the Hobby Inn and Stay Express Inn—Marks hid in hotel bathrooms while the girls performed, maintaining control from the shadows.
Marks didn’t just orchestrate the exploitation—she profited from it. She collected cash from each transaction and distributed condoms, food, and drugs to keep the minors compliant and available for more dates. The systematic grooming and control left lasting trauma on the victims, who were lured into the operation with false promises and manipulated into dependence.
U.S. District Judge George C. Hanks accepted the guilty plea and scheduled sentencing for May 9, 2018. Marks now faces up to life in federal prison and a maximum fine of $250,000. The severity of the penalty reflects the gravity of her crimes: exploiting vulnerable children through digital networks and physical coercion in a calculated criminal enterprise.
The FBI and Texas Department of Public Safety led the investigation, with critical support from law enforcement agencies in Brazoria and Galveston Counties, as well as the police departments of Galveston, Sherman, Wharton, La Marque, and the University of Texas Medical Branch. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sherri Zack and Sebastian Edwards are prosecuting the case, sending a clear message: those who traffic in children will face relentless pursuit and punishment.
