CHICAGO, IL – A man has been sentenced to 28 years in federal prison for violently robbing more than a dozen Chicago liquor and convenience stores.
ANGELO STANTON, 32, of Chicago, pleaded guilty last year to robbery and firearm charges. U.S. District Judge Robert M. Dow, Jr., imposed the prison sentence Monday. A hearing to determine the amount of restitution that Stanton must pay to the victims is scheduled for May 3, 2022.
The robberies and attempted robberies occurred in various Chicago neighborhoods. The crimes happened between August 23, 2016, and October 11, 2016, and included multiple shots fired.
Stanton carried out takeover-style heists in which he pointed a handgun at employees and demanded cash from the register or safe. He fired shots in five of the incidents, wounding two store employees.

Western Ave.; Granados Liquors, 1859 W. 47th St.; Buchanas Food & Liquor, 1834 W. 47th St.; El Yunque Liquor Store, 1900 N. California Ave.; West Town Wine and Spirits, 2501 W. North Ave.; Park Dollar and Food Store, 1101 N. California Ave.; Albany Food & Liquors, 3048 W. Fullerton Ave.; Value Most Liquors, 3236 N. Pulaski Rd.; Manha grocery store, 3751 W. Armitage Ave.; Evelyn Food Market, 2926 W. Pulaski Rd.; Don’s Grill, 1837 S. Western Ave.; One Stop Market, 3456 S. Western Ave.; Humboldt Haus, 2958 W. North Ave.; Bucktown Food & Liquors, 2422 W. Fullerton Ave.; and Lucky One Food, 1854 N. Pulaski Rd.
The sentence was announced by John R. Lausch, Jr., United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois; Emmerson Buie, Jr., Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Field Office of the FBI; and David Brown, Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department. Valuable assistance was provided by the Illinois State Police and Cook County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley A. Chung represented the government.
