Anna May Martin, Drug Distribution, West Virginia 2017

A Monongalia County woman was sentenced to a year in prison for her role in a drug distribution conspiracy, announced United States Attorney Bill Powell.

Anna May Martin, 32, of Westover, West Virginia, was found guilty of one count of ‘Unlawful Use of Communication Facility’ in October 2017.

Martin admitted to using a phone to distribute and assist in a conspiracy to distribute oxycodone in Monongalia County in March 2017.

The case was investigated by the Mon Metro Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, with funding provided by the federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Program (OCDETF).

The OCDETF program supplies critical federal funding and coordination that allows federal and state agencies to work together to successfully identify, investigate, and prosecute major interstate and international drug trafficking organizations and other criminal enterprises.

U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided over the case.

Martin’s sentence was handed down after she pleaded guilty to the charge in October 2017. The investigation was completed months earlier, in March 2017. The defendant is currently serving a 12-month sentence for the crime.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Zelda E. Wesley on behalf of the government.
