A high-ranking official at a Virginia labor union has pleaded guilty to embezzling nearly $30,000 in union funds.
Anthony Jordan, 55, a former Secretary-Treasurer of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, Division 26, pleaded guilty to embezzlement and theft of labor union assets.
According to court documents, Jordan embezzled $30,519.76 from the union between April 2013 and April 2019.
The scheme involved Jordan writing unauthorized checks to himself from Division 26’s checking account and making direct debits, ATM withdrawals, and cash back transactions from the account for personal expenses.
Jordan used the union’s funds to pay for veterinary services, utilities, cell phone service, internet and cable, groceries, personal tax returns, convenience store transactions, and more.
Jordan is scheduled to be sentenced on September 8 and faces a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison and potential financial penalties.
In addition to the prison time, Jordan may also face fines and other financial penalties.
The investigation was conducted by the Office of Labor Management of the Department of Labor.
Anthony Jordan’s crime was committed in Emporia, Virginia, and he is still awaiting sentencing.
