A convicted felon has been sentenced to nearly 4 years in prison for possessing an illegal firearm in Cambria County.
Anthony Rodney Edwards, 31, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, was found guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. On March 31, 2017, Edwards was convicted in Cambria County of firearms not to be carried without a license, a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year.
Federal law prohibits persons who have been convicted of a crime punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year from possessing firearms. Edwards was found in possession of a loaded Norinco .38 caliber pistol on March 15, 2018.
United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson imposed the sentence on Edwards.
According to information presented to the court, Edwards’ prior conviction makes him ineligible to possess a firearm under federal law. Edwards was sentenced to three years and 10 months in prison and three years’ supervised release.
Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie L. Haines prosecuted this case on behalf of the government. United States Attorney Scott W. Brady commended the United States Marshals Service for the investigation that led to the successful prosecution of Edwards.
The case was investigated by the United States Marshals Service. Edwards remains in federal custody pending transfer to a federal prison to begin serving his sentence.
