Heroin and Fentanyl Kingpin Caught in New Hampshire

CONCORD, N.H. – A Connecticut man has pleaded guilty to participating in a conspiracy to distribute heroin and fentanyl, a highly potent opioid that has ravaged communities across the United States. Anthony Swift, 32, formerly of Hartford, Connecticut, will face the music for his role in the deadly trade.

Court documents and statements in court revealed that on May 23, 2016, the New Hampshire State Police conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle traveling on Interstate 95. Swift was a passenger in the vehicle, and a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 14.46 grams of fentanyl and 120.4 grams of heroin from a duffel bag in the trunk of the vehicle.

Sources close to the investigation revealed that Swift acknowledged that the drugs had been purchased in Hartford, Connecticut for distribution in the Presque Isle, Maine area. The driver of the vehicle, Emily Bragdon, 20, of Presque Isle, Maine, is scheduled for trial on January 23, 2018.

Sentencing for Swift is scheduled for February 20, 2018. Acting U.S. Attorney John J. Farley praised the State Police for their work in preventing this substantial amount of drugs from being distributed and vowed to continue working closely with law enforcement partners to stop the sales of heroin and fentanyl in New England.

This investigation was conducted by the New Hampshire State Police. Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer Cole Davis is prosecuting the case. The U.S. Attorney’s Office continues to work tirelessly to combat the opioid epidemic that has devastated communities across the country.

The charges against Swift include participating in a conspiracy to distribute heroin and fentanyl. The case highlights the brazen nature of the opioid trade and the need for continued vigilance from law enforcement and the public.

As the opioid epidemic continues to claim lives and destroy families, it is imperative that those responsible for perpetuating this deadly trade are held accountable. Anthony Swift’s guilty plea is a significant step in that effort.
