Anthony Sylvester Gaines, Drug Trafficking, Virginia 2024

A Henrico County man has been sentenced to 110 months in prison for his role in a major drug trafficking operation.

Anthony Sylvester Gaines, 42, was found guilty of distributing various types of drugs, including cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine, from a hotel room in Henrico County.

According to court documents, Gaines rented an extended stay hotel room where he stored and prepared the drugs for distribution. When police searched the room, they recovered approximately 132 grams of cocaine, 9 grams of heroin and fentanyl mix, 29 fake Oxycodone ‘M30’ pills that contained fentanyl, and 28 red and green tablets that contained methamphetamine.

In addition to the drugs, police also seized two loaded 9mm semiautomatic pistols, one from the counter in the bathroom and the other from Gaines’ vehicle, which was parked in the hotel parking lot.

Gaines was a convicted felon, and the firearm charge carried a consecutive sentence of 60 months. As a result, he was sentenced to 50 months for the drug distribution charge and 60 months for the firearm charge.

The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Jessica D. Aber, Richmond Police Department Acting Chief Rick Edwards, and DEA Special Agent in Charge Jarod Forget.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Olivia Norman prosecuted the case, which is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program. The PSN program aims to reduce violent crime by focusing enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partnering with locally based prevention and reentry programs.

The case is part of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia’s efforts to combat violent crime in the region.
