Anthony Womack, Tax Fraud, Michigan 2010

A Southfield tax preparer has pleaded guilty to preparing false tax returns, causing a tax loss of over $96,000 to the United States.

Anthony Womack, 57, of Southfield, Michigan, pleaded guilty to one count of willfully aiding in the preparation and filing of fraudulent income tax returns, United States Attorney Barbara L. McQuade announced.

Womack, who operated under the name ‘Tax Consultants Inc.’, prepared and filed federal income tax returns for 2008 through 2010 that were inflated with charitable contributions, false unreimbursed employee expenses, and false education credits.

The investigation, conducted by special agents of the IRS Criminal Investigation, uncovered Womack’s illegal activity and he will now pay the price for his actions, according to Erick Martinez, Special Agent in Charge.

A sentencing hearing was set for October 17, 2013, at 11 am, with Womack facing a maximum penalty of imprisonment of not more than three years and a $100,000 fine.

The investigation was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Hiyama.

Womack entered the guilty plea in United States District Court before Chief Judge Gerald E. Rosen.
