A Portland man has been accused of attempting to bribe an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation officer, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced. Antonio Oswaldo Burgos, 48, allegedly offered to pay the officer in order to facilitate the deportation of his estranged wife and daughter.
According to court documents, the crimes allegedly took place on three separate occasions. Burgos has been released pending trial, which is scheduled for August 28, 2018, before U.S. District Court Judge Michael H. Simon.
An indictment is only an accusation of a crime, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty, the U.S. Attorney’s Office emphasized.
The case was jointly investigated by ICE’s Office of Professional Responsibility and Homeland Security Investigations.
Burgos was released pending trial. A two-day jury trial is upcoming before U.S. District Court Judge Michael H. Simon.
