Marquis Taylor, 29, of Arapahoe County, Colorado, has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to assaulting a U.S. mail carrier with intent to rob.
The DOJ announced that on September 17, 2023, Taylor and two accomplices attempted to steal a universal mailbox key from a postal carrier during her lunch break. The trio was unsuccessful in obtaining the key but did manage to swipe various pieces of mail, packages, and a postal scanner before fleeing the scene.
The postal carrier suffered minor injuries in the attack. Dravell Ross, one of Taylor’s accomplices, was sentenced to four years in prison last year for his role in the crime.
‘Attacking a postal carrier to steal mail is a federal crime that threatens both public safety and the integrity of our mail system,’ said United States Attorney Peter McNeilly. ‘Our office will continue to aggressively prosecute those who target federal employees simply for doing their jobs.’
“Today’s sentencing is a message to those who contemplate perpetrating senseless and traumatizing acts of violence against U.S. Postal Service employees,” said Inspector in Charge Bryan Musgrove of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. “Rest assured that the dedicated men and women of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service will ensure perpetrators of these acts are brought to justice no matter how much time has passed and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Taylor was sentenced on July 17, 2025, by United States District Judge Regina M. Rodriguez. The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, with prosecution handled by Assistant United States Attorney Tim Neff. Case Number: 24-cr-00250-RMR.
