Omaha, NE – In a shocking case of child exploitation, Armando Daniels, 33, of New York, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.
United States District Judge Brian C. Buescher handed down the sentence on Daniels, who will also serve a 5-year term of supervised release after completing his prison term.
The disturbing case unfolded between January and April 2021, when Daniels communicated with a 15-year-old female from Sarpy County, Nebraska, via cellular phone and internet applications, including Discord.
On April 6, 2021, Daniels drove from his home in New York to pick up the victim and take her to New York. However, the victim’s family became aware she was missing and contacted authorities, leading to an investigation by the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office, the Indiana State Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Using call records and cell phone location data, investigators tracked Daniels and the victim to a hotel in Princeton, Illinois, where surveillance footage showed them together. The investigation revealed that Daniels sexually assaulted the victim at the hotel.
Indiana State troopers eventually arrested Daniels on April 8, 2021, in Elkhart, Indiana, bringing an end to the terrifying ordeal.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
