Armed Bank Robber Caught in Las Vegas

A brazen bank robber, 58-year-old Robert Carl Litheredge, has been charged in connection with two armed bank robberies in Las Vegas, Nev. On April 17, 2018, Litheredge held up a Bank of America branch in Henderson, making off with $1,999. Several hours later, he struck again at a Bank of America branch in Las Vegas, this time netting $20,000.

According to authorities, Litheredge, who was wearing a dark-colored ski mask and carrying a handgun, told customers and employees at the first bank to get down on the floor as he waved the handgun in the air. At the second bank, he demanded $50,000 from a teller and fired a round into the ceiling before fleeing with the cash.

Litheredge was arrested on April 19, 2018, after an anonymous tip led police to his location. A .45 caliber handgun was found on his person at the time of his arrest. During an interview with detectives, Litheredge admitted to robbing both banks.

Litheredge has eight prior felony convictions, including two bank robbery convictions from 2001 and 2007. He is also charged with felon in possession of a firearm. The case is being investigated by the FBI, the Henderson Police Department, and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Phillip N. Smith Jr. is prosecuting the case. Litheredge made his initial appearance in federal court on April 19, 2018, and is scheduled to appear in court again on July 5, 2018, for a preliminary hearing.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making communities safer. Litheredge is being held without bail pending his next court appearance.

U.S. Attorney Dayle Elieson commended the efforts of law enforcement agencies involved in the case, saying, ‘The citizens of Nevada can rest easier knowing that this individual is off the streets.’
