Vincent Taggart Reid III, Arson Attempt, Iowa 2019

Vincent Taggart Reid III, a 29-year-old man from Davenport, Iowa, has been sentenced to 110 months in federal prison for his role in an arson attempt. On Friday, July 10, 2020, Chief Judge John A. Jarvey handed down the sentence after Reid pleaded guilty to the charges.

The investigation revealed that on March 30, 2019, Davenport Police Officers were called to a duplex in Davenport where an individual was trying to set the upstairs unit on fire. The victim, who had previously kicked Reid out of the residence, had recorded him as he threatened to burn down the building and destroy her property.

According to the records, before officers arrived at the scene, Reid attempted to light multiple couch pillows on fire and then grabbed a lit candle and intentionally kicked it under the couch. He also shot a gun into the air and took off from officers in a car at high speeds.

Reid was eventually located by officers at a home associated with him and was taken into custody. The investigation was led by the Davenport Police Department, and the case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.

As part of his sentence, Reid will serve a period of supervised release of three years to follow his prison term, pay a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victims’ Fund, and pay restitution to the victim for damage caused to her property.

The United States Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa, Marc Krickbaum, announced the sentencing in a statement. Reid pleaded guilty to the charges on February 10, 2020, and the court accepted his plea.

This case highlights the severity of arson and the consequences of such actions. Reid’s sentence serves as a warning to those who would engage in such behavior, and we hope it brings some sense of closure to the victim in this case.
