An 82-year-old Marion man is facing serious charges after allegedly robbing a bank in Franklin County. According to a complaint filed in United States District Court, Arthur W. Bays is accused of taking money from the State Bank of Whittington in Benton, Illinois, on July 26, 2018.

The complaint, filed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, charges Bays with one count of bank robbery. If convicted, Bays faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Bays had an initial appearance in United States District Court in Benton, Illinois, on July 27, 2018. He was released on bond pending further proceedings in the matter.
