SCRANTON- Askia Riddick, a 25-year-old man from Scranton, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment by U.S. District Court Judge Malachy E. Mannion for passing counterfeit federal reserve notes.
Riddick passed a total of $1,800 in counterfeit federal reserve notes at the Mohegan Sun Casino and the Mt. Airy Casino between November and December of 2021, according to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam.
Judge Mannion ordered that Riddick serve two years of supervised release upon his release from custody and that Riddick pay $1,000 in restitution for related conduct to the Wind Creek Casino located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
The matter was investigated by the United States Secret Service, the Pennsylvania State Police, the New Jersey State Police, the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office (NJ), and the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney James Buchanan prosecuted the case.
The sentence was handed down on undisclosed and Riddick was charged with passing counterfeit federal reserve notes, a crime that carries significant penalties.
Riddick’s sentence is a reminder that passing counterfeit currency is a serious offense with serious consequences.
The case is a result of a joint investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies and highlights the importance of cooperation in combating crime.
