In a shocking turn of events, Anthony Black Wolf, a 26-year-old man from White River, South Dakota, has been sentenced to 12 months plus 1 day of imprisonment for assaulting a federal officer. The incident, which took place on March 3, 2013, has left many in the community shaken.
According to reports, Black Wolf fled from law enforcement officers who had to run down the defendant before apprehending him. He then resisted arrest by striking an officer in the face and tried to remove the officer’s duty weapon from its holster as he was being handcuffed. The defendant continued to try and pull the officer’s pistol out of its holster until a neighbor came out of his house and assisted by pulling on the Defendant’s thumb until the Defendant released the weapon.
The investigation was conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie H. Ruettgers. Black Wolf was indicted by a federal grand jury in May of 2013 and pled guilty to Count I of the Indictment on July 3, 2013.
U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange sentenced Black Wolf to 12 months plus 1 day of imprisonment, 18 months of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Black Wolf was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
The community is still reeling from the incident, and many are calling for stricter measures to be taken to protect law enforcement officers. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
Background information on the case revealed that Black Wolf had a history of run-ins with the law, with multiple arrests and convictions for various crimes. It is unclear what led to his actions on March 3, 2013, but one thing is certain – the consequences will be severe.
The Grimy Times would like to extend its gratitude to the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for their hard work and dedication to bringing justice to the community.
