Attorney General James Sues Attyx for $275M Solar Fraud

New York – A staggering $275 million in fraud has landed Attorney General Letitia James to file suit against home solar power company Attyx, formerly SUNco. The multi-million-dollar lawsuit targets the company and two CEOs for misleading New Yorkers into believing they could receive free or discounted solar panel installations.

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) discovered that Attyx lured vulnerable consumers, including many low-income seniors, with promises of government-subsidized home repairs and solar power systems. Instead, these victims were coerced into signing contracts for tens of thousands of dollars in unnecessary work. James is seeking to halt this illegal scheme and provide restitution to the affected homeowners.

“Attyx preyed on elderly and low-income homeowners with false promises and predatory tactics,” said Attorney General James. “We will fight these companies in court to deliver justice for the thousands who were defrauded.”

Attyx, a major home improvement company with nationwide operations, is accused of using deceptive advertising to lure unsuspecting consumers. The fraudulent scheme involved falsely advertising roof replacements and other home improvements as free or significantly reduced through clean energy incentives. Consumers were then pushed into signing contracts for expensive solar systems, often without their knowledge.

The Attorney General’s office also alleges that Attyx violated consumer protection laws by misleading customers about the actual costs of solar panels and claiming false government subsidies. Salespeople are accused of manipulating vulnerable consumers with high-interest loans, despite knowing their financial situation.

Attorney General James is now seeking a court order to cancel Attyx’s agreements with consumers and lending partners, ensuring restitution for those who have been wronged by this fraudulent scheme.
