Mail Thief Targets Local Community
A shocking case of mail theft has hit the streets of Augusta, Maine. Jason K. Stockmar, a 28-year-old man from Augusta, pleaded guilty to stealing mail and postal money orders while employed by the United States Postal Service (USPS).
According to court documents, Stockmar was hired by the USPS in 2011 and was the Postmaster Relief of the East Vassalboro, Maine Post Office when he committed the crimes. But that wasn’t all – Stockmar also took 20 blank postal money orders from a safe in the East Vassalboro Post Office. The USPS Office of the Inspector General investigated the case, revealing the extent of Stockmar’s crimes.
Stockmar faces a sentence of up to 5 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. He will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
The case sends a clear message to those who seek to exploit the trust placed in them: you will be held accountable for your actions. The people of Augusta and surrounding areas can rest a little easier knowing that justice is being served.
