BEAUMONT, Texas – A 37-year-old man from Bacliff, Texas, has been locked up for robbing a bank in Orange, Texas, sending shockwaves through the Golden Triangle.
Samuel David Sanford, III, was hit with a 72-month federal prison sentence after pleading guilty to bank robbery on October 8, 2013. U.S. District Judge Ron Clark handed down the severe punishment.
The crime occurred on December 19, 2012, when Sanford boldly entered the JP Morgan Chase Bank at 3100 block of 16th Street in Orange. Armed with a threatening note, he extorted $25,859 from the teller before making a getaway. Tipsters identified him as the perpetrator, leading to his indictment by a federal grand jury on January 23, 2013.
Sanford was handed over $25,859 in restitution orders, ensuring that every cent he stole is accounted for. This case saw the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Orange Police Department working hand-in-hand to catch the bank bandit.
Assistant U.S. Attorney John Craft led the prosecution in this high-profile case. The sentence handed down by Judge Clark sends a clear message: robbing banks will not be tolerated, and justice will always catch up with those who commit such heinous acts.
