October 25, 1837, Washington D.C. – In a shocking move, the 25th Congress has passed a bill that will grant the states a temporary reprieve from a looming financial crisis. The ‘Act to Postpone the Fourth Instalment of Deposit’ was approved by President Andrew Jackson’s successor, Martin Van Buren, on October 2, 1837. According to the bill, the states will no longer be required to make a crucial deposit to the federal government by the end of the year, instead getting a six-month extension until January 1, 1839.
