Bakersfield Man Indicted on Child Porn Charges

FRESNO, Calif. — Colin Lovette Bosby, 49, of Bakersfield, stands accused of plunging into the darkest corners of the internet to receive, distribute, and stash child pornography — a crime that has landed him in federal crosshairs.

A three-count indictment unsealed today charges Bosby with receipt and distribution of child pornography, along with two counts of possession. The case, announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert, stems from digital evidence collected during a Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) probe that exposed Bosby’s use of a peer-to-peer file-sharing program to trade vile, illegal material.

Court documents reveal Bosby didn’t just download the abuse material — he spread it. Federal agents seized two thumb drives from Bosby’s possession, both loaded with child pornography. The evidence paints a damning picture of a man who exploited technology to traffic in the sexual abuse of children.

Prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Megan A. S. Richards, who is seeking maximum accountability under federal law. If convicted, Bosby faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years and up to 40 years in prison for the receipt and distribution charge, plus up to $250,000 in fines. Each possession count carries a 10- to 20-year sentence.

The case was developed under Project Safe Childhood, the Justice Department’s nationwide crackdown on child sexual exploitation launched in 2006. The initiative combines federal, state, and local law enforcement to hunt down predators and rescue victims — with no tolerance for those who fuel demand through digital trafficking.

The charges against Colin Lovette Bosby remain allegations. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Sentencing, if convicted, will be determined by the court after weighing statutory factors and federal guidelines. For now, the case stands as another grim reminder of the digital underground where children’s suffering is traded like currency.
