Bank Bandit Sentenced to 8 Years
A Tennessee man has been sentenced to 100 months in prison for his role in three bank robberies across the country, including one in Evansville, Indiana. Heath B. Clark, 44, of Pleasant View, Tennessee, pleaded guilty to the robberies and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Richard L. Young.
Clark was found guilty of robbing the Woodforest National Bank in Evansville, Indiana, the Bank of Bolivar in Springfield, Missouri, and the Fifth Third Bank in Kennesaw, Georgia. In each case, Clark implied to the teller that he had a gun, causing them to hand over money from their drawers.
On March 9, 2015, Clark robbed the Fifth Third Bank in Kennesaw, Georgia, getting away with $11,515. Two days later, he entered the Woodforest National Bank in Evansville and stole $830. Finally, on March 23, 2015, Clark robbed the Bank of Bolivar in Springfield, Missouri, making off with $8,610.
Clark was arrested on March 24, 2015, at a casino in Robinsonville, Mississippi, where he had over $2,000 in cash on him. The investigation into the robberies was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Violent Crimes Task Force, the United States Marshals Service, and the Evansville Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle M. Sawa said that Clark must make full restitution to the banks and serve three years of supervised release following his release from prison. Clark’s sentence is a result of a guilty plea to the bank robberies, which were all insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
The case is a reminder that bank robberies can have serious consequences, including lengthy prison sentences. As U.S. Attorney Josh J. Minkler said, ‘Bank robberies are a serious crime that can have devastating effects on individuals and communities.’ Clark’s sentence is a testament to the hard work of law enforcement in investigating and prosecuting these types of crimes.
