Bank Robber Charged in Campbell Heist
A brazen bank robbery in Campbell, Ohio has led to the indictment of Orlando Popa, 26, of Youngstown. According to sources, Popa allegedly robbed the Huntington Bank in Campbell on or about February 1, 2016, making off with approximately $1,000.
The Campbell Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force joined forces to investigate the daring heist. After a thorough probe, a federal grand jury returned a one-count indictment charging Popa with bank robbery.
Acting U.S. Attorney Carole S. Rendon confirmed the indictment, stating that the defendant’s sentence will be determined by the Court after review of factors unique to this case, including Popa’s prior criminal record, if any, his role in the offense, and the characteristics of the violations. If convicted, the statutory maximum sentence will apply.
Assistant United States Attorney Jason M. Katz is prosecuting the case. Popa’s fate now rests in the hands of the court, where he will face the charges and potentially face a lengthy prison sentence. However, an indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt.
Popa is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The trial will provide an opportunity for both sides to present their evidence and for the jury to deliberate and reach a verdict.
As the wheels of justice turn, one thing is certain: bank robbery will not be taken lightly in Campbell, Ohio. With the authorities working tirelessly to bring perpetrators to justice, the community can rest assured that those responsible for such crimes will face consequences.
