Barnes Sentenced for Narcotics, Firearm Violations

New Orleans, LA – Kendell Barnes, 25, has been sentenced to serve eleven years and nine months for drug trafficking and firearms violations. The sentence includes a mandatory special assessment fee of $400.

Barnes was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute heroin, possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime, and obstruction of justice. He directed another individual to move a firearm and ten bags of heroin during a recorded jail call.

Judge Greg G. Guidry imposed the sentence, which also includes three years of supervised release following his prison term. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a joint federal, state, and local initiative aimed at reducing violent crime.

The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation New Orleans Violent Crimes Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the New Orleans Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Maria M. Carboni is responsible for the prosecution.

Barnes’s conviction serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and gun violence in our communities.
