Basilio Amaury Bron, Jr., Gun Possession, Florida 2023

CAPE CORAL, FL – Basilio Amaury Bron, Jr., 43, is facing a potential decade behind bars after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. The bust came during a high-speed traffic stop on Interstate 75 in Sarasota County, revealing a dangerous cocktail of weapons and drugs in Bron’s vehicle.

On March 12, 2022, a Sarasota County Sheriff’s Deputy clocked Bron’s vehicle traveling over 100 miles per hour northbound on I-75 near the Laurel Road exit. The deputy initiated a stop, quickly discovering Bron was already on federal supervised release for a prior felony conviction. The smell of marijuana wafting from the vehicle and the sight of two 20-inch tactical swords near the driver’s seat immediately raised red flags.

A search of the vehicle turned up a loaded SCCY CPX-1 9mm pistol with seven rounds in the center console, along with four grams of marijuana and a pair of nunchucks stuffed in the driver’s seat pocket. Bron readily admitted to possessing the firearm and handling it on multiple occasions, and also confessed to selling marijuana, according to court documents.

This isn’t Bron’s first run-in with federal firearms charges. In 2016, he received over seven years in federal prison for – you guessed it – possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. That conviction should have permanently barred him from owning any firearms or ammunition under federal law, a rule he blatantly disregarded.

Federal prosecutors are now seeking a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for Bron. The case is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a Department of Justice program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by uniting law enforcement and communities. The program emphasizes community trust, preventative measures, and focused enforcement.

The investigation was a joint effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorneys David W.A. Chee and Michael Kenneth are handling the prosecution. A sentencing date has not yet been set, leaving Bron to contemplate his choices while facing a return to the federal penitentiary.
