Bay Area Gang Steals $1M in Electronics from Oregon Business

SAN FRANCISCO – A federal grand jury has indicted five Bay Area men for their alleged roles in a daring armed robbery of over $1 million worth of Apple iPhones and cameras from an Oregon reshipping business. Cankun He, Hailong Ma, Robert Maynard, Yuxiang Wei, and Jordan Cantie face charges for conspiring to rob the Portland-based company.

Ma, 30, Wei, 25, and Cantie, 48, were arrested on August 1, 2025, while He, 31, was taken into custody yesterday. All three appeared in federal district court yesterday, with Maynard, 41, who was already in custody for another matter, making his initial appearance today.

The indictment, unsealed July 22, 2025, details a plot to steal iPhones being shipped by the Oregon company. Ma and Wei are accused of planning the heist, while Maynard and Cantie were brought in to execute it. They allegedly traveled from California, equipped with jackets marked as FBI, bulletproof vests, and zip ties for the crime.

On April 14, 2025, Maynard and Cantie drove to the business’s parking lot using flashing police lights. Cantie reportedly brandished a gun, forcing employees into the building, where they were zip-tied and threatened. The pair stole approximately 200 iPhones and five cameras before fleeing with the loot.

On May 19, 2025, Ma, Wei, Maynard, and others allegedly plotted another robbery in Hillsboro, Oregon. Maynard and four unindicted co-conspirators were arrested that day. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

He, Ma, Maynard, and Wei face a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine or twice the gain for conspiracy to engage in robbery affecting interstate commerce. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kevin Yeh and Kenneth Chambers are prosecuting the case with the assistance of Claudia Hyslop and Lance Libatique.
