Bay City Robber McGillen Sentenced to 12 Years

Bay City, MI – Tony McGillen, 45, has been sentenced to 152 months in federal prison after being caught robbing the Sunrise Family Credit Union at gunpoint.

The U.S. Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon, Jr., announced the sentence, noting that McGillen threatened tellers and made off with $7,901 in cash on April 9, 2024.

Following a swift investigation led by the FBI Detroit Field Office, McGillen was identified and arrested just two weeks after the crime. The Bay City Resident Agency played a crucial role in this successful operation.

Acting Special Agent in Charge Reuben C. Coleman emphasized that McGillen’s sentence serves as a stern warning to those who commit such violent acts. ‘Tough consequences follow crimes like bank robbery,’ he stated, ‘and Mr. McGillen will be off the streets for multiple years.’

Coleman also commended the collaboration between the FBI, local law enforcement, and the community members whose cooperation was pivotal in bringing McGillen to justice.

The investigation was conducted by the Bay City Resident Agency of the FBI, with Assistant United States Attorney William Orr handling the prosecution. McGillen pleaded guilty to bank robbery and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.
