On December 21, 2005, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that a federal indictment had been filed against Juan Carlos Becerra-Torres in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, specifically in the courthouse in Baltimore located at 6500 Cherrywood Lane, Greenbelt, Maryland. Becerra-Torres was charged with multiple counts of violent crimes including, but not limited to, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and being a felon in possession of a firearm in connection with a series of violent crimes that took place in Maryland.
The indictment alleged that Becerra-Torres had committed these crimes, and that he was previously convicted in a Maryland state court of a felony offense. The charges filed against Becerra-Torres were the result of a thorough investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Prince George’s County Police Department.
Becerra-Torres was taken into custody by federal agents on December 21, 2005, and was subsequently placed in federal custody. The case against Becerra-Torres was assigned to Magistrate Judge Paul Grimm for arraignment and initial proceedings.
