Huntington Man Sentenced to Prison for Distributing Deadly Fentanyl

A Huntington man was sentenced to six years in prison for distributing fentanyl, a highly addictive and deadly opioid. Beecher Lee Shuler, 43, of Huntington, was found guilty of selling the potent substance to a confidential informant on June 21, 2023, for $275.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Shuler sold approximately 3.48 grams of fentanyl to the informant at his residence, which he had arranged beforehand. This transaction was just the tip of the iceberg, as law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Shuler’s residence on July 1, 2023, and seized a large quantity of illegal substances, including cocaine, oxycodone, and at least 3,787 tablets containing protonitazene, a synthetic opioid potentially more deadly than fentanyl.

The search warrant also uncovered six firearms and approximately $1,111 in cash. Protonitazene, the seized tablets, weighed approximately 813 grams. This significant discovery highlights the severity of Shuler’s crimes and the potential harm he posed to the community.

U.S. District Judge Robert C. Chambers imposed the sentence of six years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Assistant United States Attorney Joseph F. Adams prosecuted the case.

Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston commended the investigative work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Cabell County Sheriff’s Office for their tireless efforts in bringing Shuler to justice. This case serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle against the opioid epidemic and the importance of law enforcement’s role in combating it.
