Bentley Mark Jenkins, Bank Robbery, Texas 2013

FORT WORTH, Texas, 2013 – Federal authorities have convicted a local man in connection with a brazen bank robbery in Burleson, Texas, that left a teller shaken.

Bentley Mark Jenkins, 46, of Fort Worth, was found guilty of one count of bank robbery in a federal trial that lasted just one day. The jury delivered the verdict after a mere 30 minutes of deliberation.

Jenkins faces a maximum statutory sentence of 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. He will remain in custody pending sentencing, which is set for January 10, 2014.

According to evidence presented at trial, Jenkins wore a towel over his head and presented a note to a teller at the Educational Employees Credit Union in Burleson on February 9, 2013. The note demanded that the teller hand over hundreds and fifties, threatening ‘no body gets hurt.’

The teller complied initially, but Jenkins became agitated and demanded more cash, shouting ‘more, more, more.’ Feeling threatened, the teller handed over the twenties in his cash drawer. Jenkins then grabbed all the cash from the teller drawer and fled the credit union.

A high-speed car chase ensued, with Burleson Police eventually apprehending Jenkins. A search of his person and vehicle revealed a large amount of cash, which is believed to be linked to the robbery.

The case was investigated by the FBI and the Burleson Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney John Bradford prosecuted the case, securing Jenkins’ conviction.

U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Saldaña of the Northern District of Texas praised the efforts of the authorities involved in the case, stating that the conviction sends a strong message to those who would engage in similar crimes.
