A Berkeley Springs man has been caught red-handed in a massive firearms trafficking scheme, one that’s left authorities reeling. Russell Allen Perry, 44, of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, pled guilty today to his role in the conspiracy.
According to court documents and statements made in court, the scheme involved another defendant purchasing firearms at licensed dealers in Morgan and Berkeley Counties and distributing those firearms for resale. Perry and others assisted in illegally selling nearly 50 firearms, a move that’s landed him in a world of trouble.
Perry faces up to 5 years in prison, a sentence that will be determined by a federal district court judge after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. This conviction marks a major victory for authorities in their ongoing battle against firearms trafficking.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives investigated the case, piecing together the evidence to bring Perry to justice. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
The case was presided over by U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble. This conviction serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of firearms trafficking and the consequences that come with it.
Perry will likely be facing a long and hard road ahead, one that will be paved with the consequences of his actions. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and bring you updates as more information becomes available.
