A Wheeling man has been sentenced to 51 months in prison for his involvement in a firearms violation. Eban Joseph Keith Beyah, 45, had previously been convicted of burglary and several drug-related charges in Commons Pleas Court in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

Beyah pleaded guilty to one count of “Unlawful Possession of a Firearm” in February 2018. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has made addressing rising violent crime in America a top priority.

The firearm in question was a 9mm pistol that Beyah admitted to possessing in Ohio County on June 2017. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Wheeling Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen L. Vogrin prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presided over the case.

The sentence is a result of Beyah’s guilty plea, which was entered in February 2018. This case highlights the importance of addressing gun violence and the role of law enforcement in keeping communities safe.

Project Safe Neighborhoods has been successful in bringing together all levels of law enforcement to reduce violent crime. The reinvigoration of PSN in 2017 marked a significant effort to address rising crime trends in the country.
