BERNABE RAMIREZ-RAMIREZ, 22, of Mexico, is back in federal crosshairs — accused of illegally reentering the United States after deportation. The charge, handed down by a Raleigh federal grand jury, marks the latest escalation in a wave of immigration-related prosecutions across Eastern North Carolina.
RAMIREZ-RAMIREZ was previously deported and later found in Sampson County, triggering the Illegal Reentry of a Deported Alien charge. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and a term of supervised release. The case underscores federal prosecutors’ relentless focus on repeat immigration offenders.
Another defendant, DOMINGO BARTOLON-LOPEZ, 29, also of Mexico, was indicted on the same charge — but with a dangerous twist. BARTOLON-LOPEZ was previously convicted of a felony, boosting his potential sentence to 10 years behind bars. He was found in Wayne County, according to court records.
LUIS CESAREO ALVAREZ-IBARRA, 30, of Mexico, faces a triple threat: False Representation of a Social Security Account Number, Aggravated Identity Theft, and Illegal Reentry. Found in Robeson County, ALVAREZ-IBARRA could serve up to nine years in prison if convicted on all counts. Authorities allege he used stolen identity data to blend into the system.
FAOZI SALEH AYAYAH, 25, of Yemen, was hit with one of the most serious charges: Illegal and Unlawful Alien in Possession of a Firearm. Discovered in Halifax County, AYALAH now faces up to a decade in federal prison, a $250,000 fine, and strict supervision if ever released.
All cases are being investigated by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations and Homeland Security Investigations. The charges remain accusations — the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. But the message from the U.S. Attorney’s Office is clear: illegal reentry won’t be treated as a paperwork violation. It’s a crime — and now, it’s a federal case.
