A Jackson man was sentenced to 188 months in prison for his role as an Armed Career Criminal in the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Bernard Caston, 54, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Jackson, Mississippi on an unknown date.
According to court documents, Caston and Fredrick Harper, also of Jackson, stole four firearms from another individual on February 24, 2018. The stolen guns were then being driven to another location in Jackson to be sold.
Caston and Harper were stopped by a JPD officer when they were transporting the stolen firearms. Caston had numerous prior felony convictions for crimes of violence, including a federal armed bank robbery conviction, which triggered the application of the Armed Career Criminal Act.
U.S. Attorney Todd W. Gee and Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives announced the sentencing of Caston.
The case was investigated by the ATF and the Jackson Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Amber Jones and Dave Fulcher prosecuted the case.
Caston’s exact sentence of 188 months is in line with the severe punishment given to those who violate the Armed Career Criminal Act. His lengthy prison term will serve as a deterrent to others who would engage in similar crimes.
Bernard Caston’s name will be added to the list of individuals who have been convicted and sentenced for their involvement in crimes of violence.
