CHICAGO, July 26, 1921 – In a shocking turn of events, the trial of the infamous Black Sox players and their gambler friends has taken a devastating turn. Billy Maharg, a Philadelphia boxer and nemesis of the Black Sox, was called to the stand to testify about his knowledge of the conception and carrying out of the 1919 baseball scandal. Maharg, who had previously helped bring down key figures in the scandal, was expected to verify the testimony of Bill Burns, a key witness in the prosecution’s case.
