Tacoma, WA – November 25, 1915 – It was supposed to be a day of gratitude and togetherness for the residents of Tacoma, but instead, it turned into a nightmare of darkness and chaos. The Tacoma Railway Power Co’s streetcar and interurban service suddenly ground to a halt, leaving thousands stranded in the pouring rain. The power went out at 3:00 PM, plunging the city into an eerie gloom that lasted for nearly three hours, until 6:00 PM.
