Blood And Bullets On The Volturno River

In the scorching Italian autumn of 1943, the battle for the Volturno River raged on, pitting American and British patrols against the German Third Armored Grenadiers. The strategic railway and highway center of Caserta, 16 miles north of Naples, had become a prized target, and the Allies were not about to let it slip through their fingers. After a fierce battle, the Fifth Army emerged victorious, mopping up the last remnants of enemy resistance below the Volturno and Calore Rivers.
