January 17, 1941, was a bloody day for the Italian forces in Albania. Despite the harsh weather conditions of snow and rain, the Greek army continued to gain ground in the battle-scarred region. According to a high command communique, the Greek forces restricted their actions due to the inclement weather, but still managed to take prisoners in the south. A Greek government spokesman revealed that an Italian patrol was engaged in the southern sector, and the entire patrol was taken prisoner. The result was a crushing blow to the Italian forces, who had been pushing hard against the Greek defenses.
